THE STUFF YOU ALREADY OWN IS THE NEW "NEW".
i came home from work tonight and felt like starting a blog but then i was like F$#### that i already have one and LORD KNOWS i should just use what i have cuz i can't AFFORD to BUY a NEW one.

That statement sounds kind of cocky and retarded - cockily retarded - but I think about this a lot (always a good reason to say it out loud. if you've thought about it A LOT, it's GOTTA be worth somebody else's time.) and the thought has become less depressing and more inspiring lately. reusing and rearranging and reimagining what I have (tangible things and intangible things) to see them as new and different-er from before.
Take this blog, for example. With a few flicks of the wrist, it turns into tess'(s) deep dark diary. it could be annie's too with a couple more flicks and some flexion at the hip joint
okay, well glad i got this off my chest. Look at these dope lookin platforms. I think the seventies are here again. i'm so relieved. my glasses seem lesslike a mistake.

YEAH it's a style blog too. what?

Critical Cor-tess-spondence
I think I've been checking this blog regularly (either daily or every-other-daily) since my last post about 4 months ago. I'm not sure if it's been out of hopefulness or brain deadedness when interacting with the internet. We are all about not posting things ever. Today, that will change but tomorrow it will probably go back to collecting dust. Oh well.
I thought a blog post might be a fun way of telling you that I'm going to start working for a different blog. Much like this blog, the other blog won't be paying me dollars for my efforts but it will be rewarding in other ways (I think/hope). This is the new place of work. If you scroll down, you'll notice the post about "looking for 2 new interns"... now one of the interns is me.
I'm going to be working with the editors on making the site look more fancy, transcribing interviews, and perhaps doing an interview or two myself. I'm a little nervous about it but mostly in a good way. I remember stumbling onto Critical Correspondence a few years ago when I was working at Moss and bringing my computer to use the single bar of wifi that only existed in the front door of the store (also known as the good old days). I was pretty excited to find this blog because it was a nice opportunity to see what was goin' on in these parts, dance-wise. The whole format of it isn't very pretty right now, but you should take a look at it. Most of the interviews are pretty interesting. The "what sustains you?" post near the top kind of made me lol and cringe at the same time. I don't know that guy.
I'm mostly nervous about writing and asking stupid interview questions/saying and writing stupid things in general. It's kind of silly and I'm going to get over it. Whenever I get all insecure and blocked up, I'll just remember the days of scrutinizing over one-page papers and you yelling from your bedroom into my bedroom: "IT'S JUST SHIT ON A PAGE, TESS." You seem to be gettin' real good at the writing-things-for-other-people-to-read sort of writing. Do you ever feel the nervousness?
This internship definitely feels like a step in the right direction, though. I've seen sooo much dance this past year and I'm becoming really interested in other people's work and creative processes. I'm looking forward to thinking about things that interest me and applying them to my work.

if you fast-forward to 3:50, you'll notice that we were living their lives/they were living ours for a few minutes of this movie.

It can't be that bad.... or can it?
I forgot how awesome this video is. And how they bleeped out "stoned" on VH1. The other day I played the "if it makes you happy" trick on Brian. You know the one, where you act normal and have a conversation while this song plays quietly on the radio in the background until the refrain and then you just GO NUTS! I'm surprised I didn't start singing a second too early because I was so excited, but the pay off is definitely better if you can wait.

I just noticed this blog is more than a year old.
Also, I heard an old guy with a nice voice and a keyboard singing this in the subway today.

you a showstoppa
I don't have anyone to talk about the radio with these days, so I'll just tell you (and the internet) that I love this song. I think it's really smart how Usher always has his hits just far apart enough that he's always "BACK!" I'm starting to understand your strategy behind "moving to NY." I'm going to airbrush a shirt with your face that says "It feels so GOOD to be BACK!"
