Critical Cor-tess-spondence
I think I've been checking this blog regularly (either daily or every-other-daily) since my last post about 4 months ago. I'm not sure if it's been out of hopefulness or brain deadedness when interacting with the internet. We are all about not posting things ever. Today, that will change but tomorrow it will probably go back to collecting dust. Oh well.
I thought a blog post might be a fun way of telling you that I'm going to start working for a different blog. Much like this blog, the other blog won't be paying me dollars for my efforts but it will be rewarding in other ways (I think/hope). This is the new place of work. If you scroll down, you'll notice the post about "looking for 2 new interns"... now one of the interns is me.
I'm going to be working with the editors on making the site look more fancy, transcribing interviews, and perhaps doing an interview or two myself. I'm a little nervous about it but mostly in a good way. I remember stumbling onto Critical Correspondence a few years ago when I was working at Moss and bringing my computer to use the single bar of wifi that only existed in the front door of the store (also known as the good old days). I was pretty excited to find this blog because it was a nice opportunity to see what was goin' on in these parts, dance-wise. The whole format of it isn't very pretty right now, but you should take a look at it. Most of the interviews are pretty interesting. The "what sustains you?" post near the top kind of made me lol and cringe at the same time. I don't know that guy.
I'm mostly nervous about writing and asking stupid interview questions/saying and writing stupid things in general. It's kind of silly and I'm going to get over it. Whenever I get all insecure and blocked up, I'll just remember the days of scrutinizing over one-page papers and you yelling from your bedroom into my bedroom: "IT'S JUST SHIT ON A PAGE, TESS." You seem to be gettin' real good at the writing-things-for-other-people-to-read sort of writing. Do you ever feel the nervousness?
This internship definitely feels like a step in the right direction, though. I've seen sooo much dance this past year and I'm becoming really interested in other people's work and creative processes. I'm looking forward to thinking about things that interest me and applying them to my work.
